Knives in the Movies: A Conglomeration

It’s time again for knives and the cinema to mix. There’s not really a theme for this post; it’s more of a hodgepodge of awesome blades on the big screen.
Below each photo I’ve included what knife it is that is being pictured. If you want a bit of a challenge, try to identify each knife without looking at the description. I’m curious to know how many of you are able to identify all of the knives on your own, so feel free to leave a comment letting me know how well you did at the bottom of this post. (If this is too easy, I might make my next post on knives in the movies more challenging.)
The Hunted

The movie The Hunted with Tommy Lee Jones features a TOPS Tom Brown Tracker (the antagonist in the movie is actually the one who carries this blade). The second photo above looks like varies slightly from the typical Tracker because the blade doesn’t have a black coating, so it’s probably a different knife than the one that is used in the rest of the movie.
Something I found out that’s actually pretty interesting is that Tom Brown, the survival specialist who designed the knife, was a technical advisor for The Hunted. I can only imagine that it’s pretty awesome to design a knife, see it on the big screen, and get to work behind the scenes for that movie. You can actually see some of the knife on the cover for the movie, too:

The movie Red features a Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri, which is easy to spot in the photo above.

In the movie Face Off, there’s a quick glance at a SOG Seal Pup.

Dred

There are a couple of knives in the movie Dred.

The shot above allows you to see basically the whole knife, which makes it pretty easy to catch this Cold Steel Double Agent.

There are a few key pieces of information you can gather from the photo above to help you determine what the knife is; 1. The logo on the blade, 2. the blade shape, and 3. the unique flipper.

The knife is a Boker Armed Forces with a tanto blade. In my opinion, the knife pictured is the large version of the knife because it looks like the blade extends on further past the serrations than it does in the smaller version of the knife.

The handle and bowie blade give away this butterfly’s identity.

It’s a Benchmade 63 Bowie Bali Song.

Are any of you aware that The Wolverine came out this past Friday? I’m sure you are, because who doesn’t love a good X-Men movie—especially one about Wolverine?

It’s a little difficult to tell from the photo, but that’s a knife from the Cold Steel Magnum series you see above. Cold Steel thinks it might be a Magnum Tanto II. You can watch a clip of this scene here, but be warned that you can’t un-see this clip! If you’re worried about spoilers, don’t watch it.

That’s all I’ve got for today. Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to check out our ever-changing New Arrivals section for new knives!

  1. The film ‘rise of the planet of the apes’ features a gerber remix, pretty easily identifiable knife the finger hole pivot gives it away. Featured in the scene where Ceaser the chimp uses it to escape from the cage he is in.

    1. Awesome! I saw that movie, but it was before I started working at Blade HQ and gained my vast knife knowledge : ) I’m going to go check that out!

  2. Hey great article! I’ll definitely be watching out to see what knives I can identify when I watch movies from now on. Thanks for taking the time to identify these. It’s always interesting to see what gear makes it onto Hollywood movie sets. Take care Kaylene!

    1. Dave,
It’s always nice to hear your efforts are appreciated. Thanks, and thanks for stopping by!

  3. Jared and Elno,
Some disagreement about which knife it is, eh? …Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! …Just kidding. I feel like someone did a post on that movie once upon a time, but I’m not sure. I’ll do some digging and find out.
In the meantime, feel free to tell my superior that I should be allowed to watch movies all day long for the purpose of posting more knives in the movies on the blog. I’d be ok with that. Just saying.

  4. The tanto (under Red) is a CRKT not a Boker. The double flipper tabs give it away (and the serrations).
